P4 Sort-By-Breed Help
A lot of people like to sort their Petz crew by faces...faces of the original Petz breedz. I've been asked before, and I've had to ask before as well...how can you tell some of them apart?
To be honest, sometimes I can't by looking at the face in-game, and other people have the same issue sometimes. There's a trick I was taught though, and I wanted to share it with people who
may need the help.
To me, Dogz were easy. I could tell them apart in a heartbeat. Catz, not so much. But I've seen people get confused about Dogz too, so I'll include them.
However, I'm including things that will help with original petz and not petz bred with overwrites, breedfiles, or that have any hexed lines, since these standards don't ALWAYS apply to those petz.
So, what's the best trick? (Especially when it comes to catz!) These images right here:
You've seen these before. When you click Pick A Pet on the carrying case to choose a pet to play with, they all have their very own pictures there.
Did you know that whatever face the breed has, gives this picture its' own pose? For example, any cat with a B+W Shorthair face will be tilting the head to the right, with angry eyes.
Maine Coons, who look very similar however, will always be tilting their heads to the left!
You can probably see that some (such as the Calico and Tabby) have the SAME position however. I'll help with that in the section below!
Another thing to note! I've seen people say things like "I think my cat has a Calico nose on a Maine Coon face!" and stuff like that. But that actually isn't true!
While petz' breeding may result in odd things such as Calico faces and Maine Coon bodies...their faces, excluding their ears only, are entirely of one breed only. So,
if you have a Calico nose on your cat, it's definitely a Calico face overall. It may be bigger or smaller, depending on the overall size of the pet, but it's still a Calico.
Catz
First of all, Alley Catz. These guys are very easy. When you have a mix with an Alley face, usually one eye (as well as the pupil) is bigger than the other. It's nearly impossible to miss!
B+W Shorthairs are one of my weaknesses. Their faces look very similar to Maine Coons, and I struggle to tell them apart. Perhaps you see a difference I don't? I usually
have to rely on the Pick A Pet image to tell them apart. I'm sure their general face shape is different, but it's too subtle for me to tell. Upon making this page though, I notice Maine Coons have an upside-down triangle nose, where
B+W Shorthairs have an oval nose! Maybe that could help?
Calicos were one I used to find tricky. Until I noticed something. They have a perfect heart-shaped nose! Also, I do think Calicos are easily the most overrun breed in Catz history.
If you're 99% sure the cat MIGHT have a heart-nose (because at some angles, it is tricky to tell), then it's VERY likely it is a Calico anyway. Seriously, they're everywhere. xD
Chinchilla Persians are VERY easy to figure out. Their head is always super large, super round, and they'll always have a pink nose. xD Trust me, when you get a Chinchilla Persian-faced
cat, you'll know!
Maine Coons are another I struggle with. They look like B+W Shorthairs, with the same greyish nose. Upon making this page though, I notice Maine Coons have an upside-down triangle nose, where
B+W Shorthairs have an oval nose! Maybe that could help? Either way, I usually have to rely on the Pick A Pet image to tell them apart.
Something about those Orange Shorthair chubby cheeks really stand out! This is another I've struggled to identify, but since their Pick A Pet image is scaredy looking,
just like they are, it can clear up any confusion I may have!
There are only two original breedz with pink noses...the Chinchilla Persian, who has a large, round, obvious head shape...and the Persian. If it has a pink nose,
and isn't a Chinchilla Persian, it's a Persian. Enough said.
Russian Blues have a slightly smaller head shape than most of the catz. Their cheeks barely even stick out! Plus their nose is pretty tiny. Somehow, they're easy for me to identify,
yet I can't exactly explain how I do it. Hopefully it's easy enough for you!
Siamese have a very pointed face! They seem to have high cheek bones, if you will, that come to a point at the muzzle. Also I THINK they have the smallest mouth ballz
of all the catz, but don't quote me on that!
Lastly, the Tabby. Ugh. I struggled with them too, since they have dark noses that, depending on the angle, could look like a Maine Coon OR a B+W Shorthair. And? They have
slightly chubby cheeks, like the Orange Shorthair. I literally have to resort to the Pick A Pet image every time for Tabbies. However, the image is the same position as the Calico.
You can instantly rule out the Calicos by checking for heart-shape noses! Once you do that, and have a cat in the same position as the Calico WITHOUT a heart-nose...it's a Tabby!
Dogz
Bulldogs are usually pretty easy. They have short noses, and a lot of...well, Jowlz, just like the default name for the Bulldogs when you go to adopt them. xD
Chihuahuas are a piece of cake! They have a SINGLE nose ball, and they always seem to have particularly large eyes. On bigger bodied mixies, the head is usually large as well!
Dachshunds have a long, thin face! It's actually very similar to the Poodle, except there's one big difference that helps every single time. Poodles will ALWAYS have a Poodle hair
style atop their heads, while no other breed's face can inherit that. So if it has no fancy hairdo, it's a Dachshund!
Dalmatians...the Calico of the Dogz world. Most dog mixies are likely to have the Dalmatian face. To be honest with you, I'm not sure how to describe this one.
It's one you see around so often, you just KNOW what the Dalmatian face is. I suppose if you truly can't tell, resort to checking the Pick A Pet image, as the Dalmatian is
the only dog tilting its' head to the right!
Great Danes can be tricky to tell from Scotties. Somehow I never have that problem, and I don't know how to explain why. My brain just recognizes Danes and Scotties!
Hmm. Well, the Great Danes somehow have a droopy-lip thing going on somehow, while Scotties don't. Danes also have their snouts a little thinner at the top, where Scotties
have wider snouts. Again, if that didn't help, refer to the Pick A Pet image to tell them apart!
Labradors are another I just recognize without knowing how. The best I can say is, again, refer to the Pick A Pet image. The only one you could mistake it for is a Dalmatian,
and their poses are different, so that will help!
I think Mutts are my favorite dog face! They're easy to tell apart because of those fabulous lips! They have two very distinct lip ballz, and one below for the mouth. They're
outlined in a pretty obvious way, which probably makes them easier to identify!
Poodles, as stated earlier, are pretty obvious. The only ones you could mistake them for would be the Dachshund, however Poodle faces will ALWAYS have the infamous 'poodle tuft'
on top of their heads, where no other breed can inherit this naturally. If it's got fabulous hair, it's a Poodle!
Scotties are very similar to Great Danes, but I can usually tell them apart somehow. Their snouts are much wider at the top, and on bigger bodied mixies, their faces
are just a big larger than the Dane's face could ever get. I hadn't noticed until I was editing this picture, but these Scotties also had eyes outlined with grey, rather than
black like all the other Dogz. I'm unsure if all Scottie mixies are like this, but I would assume so. So that may be another way to identify them.
I'm pretty sure the Sheepdog face is wider than all the other Dogz' faces! Aside from that, they ALWAYS have super tiny eyes. Really easy to spot!
This page was created based on my own personal experience and knowledge with Petz. If I've made a mistake, or you know something I don't, feel free to contact me
and I can discuss it with you, and see about adding it (or removing it, if it's a mistake) to the page! I made this purely to help people with their crew sites, so
I hope it was of use to somebody else! Good luck with getting those crew sites posted!
